Mini Pizza Tarts Recipe

mini pizza tarts baby led weaning

Whip up a batch of these Mini Pizza Tarts…they take 5 minutes to prepare (longer with a little one helping out!) and taste delicious!

With a toddler who always acts as though she is about to keel over from hunger by lunchtime and a baby who is in the first stage of weaning I’m always on the hunt for quick and easy lunches that’ are a little different to the usual sandwiches. These mini pizza tarts provide just that! They take minutes to prepare (and little one’s can help out too!) and will keep for a couple of days in the fridge. The great thing about these little crispy tarts it that they can be customised to suit your family’s tastes; I’ve listed some ideas at the end of this post for other flavour combinations.

As well as being a perfect toddler lunch, they are fantastic for baby led weaning which we are just embarking upon again with our second baby, Harrison. They went down a storm with him and, unlike a lot of food, they are easy to grip when cut lengthways to make two pizza fingers.

I used ready-rolled puff and grated cheese just for ease and convenience but block pastry and cheese works just fine too.

Makes: 15 mini tarts

You will need:

  • a sheet of ready rolled puff pastry
  • tomato puree
  • grated cheese
  • toppings of your choice; I used cooked chicken and sweetcorn
  1. Preheat your oven to 190c and grease two baking trays.
  2. Roll out the pastry, leaving it on the parchment and using a knife cut it into 15 small squares. I used a plastic lettuce knife so that Sophia could help with this part.mini pizza tarts 2
  3. Score a border around the square.mini pizza tarts 3
  4. Prick the pastry all over with a fork.mini pizza tarts 4
  5. Add a small blob of puree to the centre of each pastry square and using the back of a teaspoon spread the puree out to remain inside the border.
  6. Add the grated cheese and toppings onto the pastry and pop onto the baking trays.
  7. Bake for around 15 minutes but keep a close eye on them as pastry burns quickly. Remove them from the oven when they are a golden brown colour and cooked on the bottom.
