Straws and Spaghetti Fine Motor Activity

Often activities can be put together from rooting through cupboards at home and this activity is proof of that. Using some simple household objects, a simple fine motor activity was born.

This is a great pre-writing activity that helps to strengthen little one’s pincer grip whilst providing a fun challenge at the same time. Squiggle (2 yrs) really enjoyed this activity!

You will need:

  • Dried spaghetti
  • Straws snipped up
  • Playdough

Make a ball of dough, poke the spaghetti into it so it’s sticking up and allow children to thread the straw snippets down the spaghetti – it really is as simple as that! You can alter how challenging this activity is my cutting the straws either longer or shorter.
